คนตัดไม้

Once upon a time, there was a very strong woodcutter. He asked for a job from a timber merchant, and he got it.
กาลครั้งหนึ่ง มีคนตัดไม้ที่เก่งมากคนหนึ่ง ซึ่งได้ทำงานกับพ่อค้าไม้
The pay was really good and so were the work conditions. For that reason the woodcutter was determined to do his best
เนื่องจากพ่อค้าไม้ได้จ่ายผลตอบแทนและสภาพการทำงานที่ดีให้แก่เขา ดังนั้น คนตัดไม้จึงตั้งใจแน่วแน่ที่จะทำงานของเขาให้ดีที่สุด
His boss gave him an axe and showed him the area where he was supposed to work
เจ้านายได้ให้ขวานและบอกให้เขาไปตัดไม้ในพื้นที่ที่กำหนดให้
The Boss was very much impressed and said, "Congratulations keep it up!"
เจ้านายประทับใจในตัวเขามาก และกล่าวชมเขา “ดีมาก ทำงานให้ดีต่อไปน่ะ”
The first day, the woodcutter brought down 18 trees.
ในวันแรกคนตัดไม้ สามารถตัดไม้ได้ถึง 18 ต้น
Very motivated by the words of the boss, the woodcutter tried harder the next day, but he only could bring down 15 trees.
เพราะเขาได้รับกำลังใจที่ดีจากเจ้านาย เขาจึงตั้งใจที่จะทำงานหนักขึ้นในวันต่อมา แต่เขากลับตัดไม้ได้เพียง 15 ต้นเท่านั้น
The third day he tried even harder, but he could only bring down 10 trees
ในวันที่สาม เขาเพียรพยายามมากขึ้นไปอีก แต่กลับตัดไม้ได้เพียง 10 ต้นเท่านั้น
Day after day he was bringing down less and less trees. "I must be losing my strength", the woodcutter thought to himself
แต่ละวันผ่านไปเขากลับตัดไม้ได้น้อยลงทุกที คนตัดไม้รำพึงกับตนเองว่า ความแข็งแรงของเขาคงลดน้อยถอยลงเสียแล้ว
He went to the boss and apologized, saying that he could not understand what was going on.
เขาจึงไปหาเจ้านายของเขาเพื่อขอโทษ และบอกกับเจ้านายว่า เขาไม่เข้าใจว่าทำไมผลลัพธ์มันจึงเป็นเช่นนี้
When was the last time you sharpened your Axe?" the boss asked.
เจ้านายจึงถามเขาว่า “ เธอได้ลับขวานครั้งสุดท้ายเมื่อไหร่?”
"Sharpen? I had no time to sharpen my Axe. I have been very busy trying to cut trees.
ลับขวานเหรอครับ? ผมไม่มีเวลาที่จะลับขวานของผมเลย ผมยุ่งอยู่แต่การตัดต้นไม้”
The moral of the story:

Our lives are like that. We sometimes get so busy that we don't take time to sharpen the axe.
ชีวิตของพวกเราก็เช่นกัน บางครั้งเรายุ่งเสียจนไม่มีเวลาจะลับขวานให้คมอยู่เสมอ
In today's world, it seems that everyone is busier than ever, but less happy than ever. Why is that?
ในโลกทุกวันนี้ดูเหมือนทุกคนจะยุ่งมากขึ้นแต่กลับมีความสุขน้อยลงกว่าเคย ทำไมจึงเป็นเช่นนั้น?
Could it be that we have forgotten how to stay sharp?
เป็นไปได้หรือเปล่าที่ว่า พวกเราลืมที่จะมีชีวิตอยู่อย่างชาญฉลาดที่จะลับชีวิตของเราให้คม
There is nothing wrong with activity and hard work.
มันไม่ผิดที่เราจะทำงานหนัก
But we should not get so busy that we neglect the truly important things in life, like our personal life, taking time to care for others, taking time to read, etc.
แต่เราไม่ควรวุ่นวายจนละเลยสิ่งที่สำคัญในชีวิต เช่น ชีวิตส่วนตัว การเอาใจใส่ผู้อื่น การให้เวลากับการอ่าหนังสือ และอื่นๆ
We all need time to relax, to think and meditate, to learn and grow.
เราทุกคนต้องการเวลาที่จะผ่อนคลาย ที่จะคิด ที่จะสร้างสมาธิ และที่จะได้เรียนรู้และเติบโต
If we don't take time to sharpen our lives, we will become dull and lose our effectiveness also our competency.
ถ้าเราไม่ยอมใช้เวลาที่จะลับคมให้แก่ชีวิตของเรา เราจะกลายเป็นผู้ที่โง่เขลาและสูญเสียซึ่งประสิทธิผลและศักยภาพของเรา
To stay competence is as important as your life and it is your responsibility to do so. It is a guarantee that you will success and most wanted in your career.
เป็นความรับผิดชอบของเราที่จะต้องรักษาและพัฒนาศักยภาพของตน เพราะมันจะเป็นส่วนหนึ่งที่จะรับประกันความสำเร็จ และความเป็นที่ต้องการในอาชีพของตัวเรา
So start from today, think about the ways by which you could increase you competency level. So that you can do your job more effectively and add a lot of value to it.
